Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Is Ready to Defend Himself In Court By Ogechukwu Ubah (Abia Writers) Edited and published by Joseph Afokwalam 12th January 2022 It is a welcomed development that Muhammad Buhari, Nigerian president, said that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should go and defend himself in court. He made the statement in a January 2022 Channels Television interview. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his lawyers are ready to battle the Nigerian government in court. The Nigerian government is the party running away from this battle with long adjournments. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been denied a fair trial on several court dates. The prosecutor keeps giving one flimsy excuse or another to delay the hearing, and the judge keeps obliging him. Some reasons are so ridiculous that one wonders if they ever want to proceed with this case. The Nigerian court system is nothing to write home about. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria, an international crime. Almost seven months since his rendition, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has only taken a plea and nothing more. This is how innocent people languish in Nigerian cells "awaiting trial" without prosecution and justice. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a prisoner of conscience, and he has committed no crime, for he is a freedom fighter. Self-determination is not a crime. It is a fundamental human right in the UN and African charter, both of which Nigeria is a signatory. Many other countries of the world like Scotland, Catalonia, Kurdistan etc. are also asking for independence. Biafra is not the only Nation asking for freedom. Why is the Biafran case different? Why is the despotic Nigerian president arresting and killing Biafran activists? We are placing the world on notice that President Muhammad Buhari extraordinarily renditioned Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and wants to jail him unjustly. They have refused to give him a fair trial and justice. Igbo elders led by Mazi Mbazuruike Amechi, and religious leaders from Biafraland, have approached president Buhari to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without success. Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), on their part, asked President Muhammadu Buhari not to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The ACF has not asked PMB to tag bandits ravaging the north terrorists. They have not told the president to stop releasing hardened Boko haram terrorists in the name of repentant terrorists. They were fast to ask president Buhari not to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Once it has to do with easterners, it will be challenging but, if it is in the North, it will be a workover, and you still call this country one Nigeria? It is time we begin to find solutions to all these issues before it gets to the next generation. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu saw all these before now, hence Biafra Nation's agitation. The world knows the truth, but those benefiting from Biafra slavery refuse to let go. Biafrans are fighting for their freedom, and they shall get it just like the other countries did. They have come a long way, and there is no going back. No amount of intimidation, frustration and killings can stop them. They have been killing Biafrans since 1945, and they are still talking about Biafra, which tells you all you need to know.
