Insecurity and Governors as Chief Security Officers of Their Respective States Written by Onyemachi Gabriel Eme 6th May 2021 Insecurity in Nigeria is a grave concern. It is at the front burner of virtually every debate today in Nigeria, with an avalanche of permutations as to the possible end results, ranging from a possible implosion to an outright civil war. Insecurity has grown exponentially since the start of Buhari’s regime. As a result, Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, tweeted through his verified Tweeter handle that the governors are incapable of providing security. He wrote: "Nigerian Governors, ‘Chief Security Officers’ of their States.’ Stop calling Nigerian Governors ‘Chief Security Officers’ of their States. They are powerless! Herdsmen, Bandits or Boko Haram terrorists attack their States and they run to Abuja to take photos with Buhari. Igboho and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have more control over security than any Governor." In the same vain Robert Clark, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has warned that with the current spate of insecurity, Nigeria might collapse in the next six months. It therefore behoves Nigerians to embrace the fact and reality of insecurity and rise up in defence while acknowledging the fact that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho are there to give aid in the fight against fulanization and islamization.
