Seeing what Frederick Lugard wrote about Hausa-Fulani, this is the man responsible for amalgamating North and South. If he can write this about Hausa-Fulani, what made him to amalgamate North and South? - perhaps to punish the South.
Frederick Lugard wrote:
"The Hausa-Fulani has no ideals, no ambitions save such as sensual in character. He is a fatalist, spendthrift and a gambler. He is gravely immoral and is seriously diseased that he is a menace to any community to which he seeks to attach himself".
- Lord Lugard in a Letter to his colleague, Walter H. Lang on September 25, 1918.
(Hundred Years on and clearly Lugard was wrong in thinking the Hausa Fulani lacked ambition.)
Frederick Lugard forgot the ambition of them ruling Nigeria as God Gifted or the desire of taking over the whole country.
