There is a popular saying that when an elder refuses to live up to his responsibilities as expected by his subjects, especially the ones in public service, he automatically becomes a public nuisance. Also there is another saying, it's not just a saying, but, it is a solid and an irrefutable fact. It says "When life gives you lemons, you throw them at the Government"
I know some fellows here would want to ask "Why do IPOB always go after their bigwigs that was supposed to be at the forefront of their quest for freedom from the oppressive Nigerian government. Some call it "CHARACTER ASSASSINATION". The truth is, The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic but he is always very apt to spread his discontent with the government.
Having said these, permit me to delve into the issue at hand which is the ongoing statement credited to the President-General of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, where he stated that contrary to beliefs in some quarters, he has no hand nor input in the Operation Python Dance II carried out by the Nigerian Army last year September, 2017 which claimed many innocent lives of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. Speaking on Friday August 3, 2018 in Enugu, at a symposium on “Quest for self-determination by ethnic nationalities; way forward for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria,” organized by Movement of Biafrans In Nigeria, MOBIN and co-hosted by the convener, South East Elders Forum, Dr. Dozie Ikedife.
When I first saw this news making round the net, I paused and pondered on the past actions and body languages of Nnia Nwodo and I was moved to think otherwise and that led me to write this article.
Now, let us reflect on one of the most conflicted statements made by the same Chief John Nnia Nwodo.
Recall his statement last year “Nobody should touch these youths. They are my children. When I was their age, I was in the trench fighting for Biafra. My best friend died at the battle front. More than one million people were killed in the battle, one and half million people starved to death…you can’t be a youth then without going to the battle front.
I can’t allow that to happen to my people again. That is why I will be a saboteur in any attempt to levy another war on Igboland. That is why Ohanaeze wants restructuring of Nigeria.”
Put it this way "I will do everything to sabotage the quest for Biafra Restoration.
Let it be made clear for everyone who cares to listen, the quest for freedom by the
Indigenous People Of Biafra is NOT and will NEVER be a call for war. Self determination is recognized globally and nowhere was it stated that it is a call for war. It is a right to self governance by every indigenous people. So when Nwodo made the above statement, what was in his mind?.
Recall that after he made that statement, no long, the Nigerian government led an Operation Python Dance II in the Southeast through the Nigerian military and on September 14th 2017, invaded the house of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and shot dead hundreds of innocent Biafrans which also had the paramount ruler of Ibeku His Royal Highness Eze Isreal Okwu Kanu and his wife Lolo Ugoeze Nnenne Okwu Kanu and also the Ohamadike himself Prince Nnamdi Kanu missing till date. No one knows their current fate till now. And ever since then, Nnia Nwodo and the five Southeast governors have never put out intensive efforts to compel the military to produce the missing families.
So why is Nnia Nwodo at this point trying to exonerate himself? And how do we know if truly he had nothing to do with that devilish intimidation towards the Biafrans?
Infact at first, I never wanted to write this article because the leadership of IPOB through the Deputy leader Mazi Alphonsus Uche Mefor had previously issued an order to cease any attack towards Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Nwodo. However, if you look closely, you would understand that this is not an attack, but putting the records straight.
Since Nnia Nwodo have decided to publicly deny his involvement in that act, he should put out irrefutable evidences to exonerate himself, but until then, I reserve my comments. Thank you.
Finally, don't forget to support the forthcoming Biafra Referendum. Also boycott every elections in Biafraland.
